a performative installation
At the beginning of her process, Consolate first needed to create a space for her dead.
She had to offer them a burial in order to be at peace with her story — a necessary step to move forward in the intimate and artistic quest she pursues with ICIRORI.
This scenography, illuminated and sounded, stands on its own.
It invites those who wish to, to come and gather.
It is not a cemetery; it is a place for our dead, one that exists wherever each person decides it to be.
Creating a space of homage allows everyone to measure their relationship with what transcends us and cannot be explained.
In this space, marked by mourning and by the sensory memory of Burundi’s primary forests, dwells the living body of Consolate.
This installation — as neutral and minimalist as possible — allows anyone, regardless of gender, belief, or religion, to feel invited to take part in this collective tribute.
