« I work on what I know but above all on what I don’t know.
It is a documentary performance in “I”, retracing Consolate’s journey, from the small house on the Burundian hills to the death of her family in the marshes, up to ZAVENTEM airport.
It is a documentary performance in “I” that traces Consolate’s journey, from Brussels to Kiremba, from Kiremba to Brussels.
ICIRORI is an inner journey nourished by both intimate and documentary work.
ICIRORI is a rebirth, a hope that confirms it is never too late.
It is also a necessity — that of meeting people who share my story.
Knowing that many children went through the same fate, it seems essential to me to share our stories so they become one, and to multiply our cries of anger.
It is also an urgency — to make this crime known beyond borders. Human trafficking is, unfortunately, not rare, even today.
It is therefore essential to bring justice to us — the stolen children — as well as to our biological families, so that we may reclaim our lives with dignity. »
ICIRORI unfolds as a series of multidisciplinary creations, installations, performances, meeting spaces...
In this chapter, ICIRORI, Consolate shares this new memory born from a return 28 years later. An immersive performance in a hybrid and evolving format that invites human sharing — a “we”.
Starting from the need to dig into her personal story as a child illegally adopted, Consolate takes us to the heart of her intimate world through sounds, scents, and images. She shares her memories to question our sensory memory and reveals stories of similar lives. Documents that immerse us in questions related to transnational adoption and post-colonial issues.
